Snake Draft Order Guide: Round-by-Round Picks for Every League Size
The most common search query that lands on this site isn't "how to draft," it's "snake draft order 14 team." People want the literal pick-by-pick map for their league size, and most explainers bury the actual order under three paragraphs of history about the snake format. This page doesn't. The first section gives you the full round 1 through round 6 order for 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16-team leagues. The rest of the page explains why specific slots in each size play differently in 2026, and which slots the GSC data on this site says get the most interest from real drafters.
1. 12-Team Snake Draft Order (Round 1 Through Round 6)
12-team is the default. If your league platform didn't ask you to pick a size, you are in a 12-team snake. The order below is the full round 1 through round 6 map for every starting slot.
- Pick 1.01: 1.01, 2.12, 3.01, 4.12, 5.01, 6.12
- Pick 1.02: 1.02, 2.11, 3.02, 4.11, 5.02, 6.11
- Pick 1.03: 1.03, 2.10, 3.03, 4.10, 5.03, 6.10
- Pick 1.04: 1.04, 2.09, 3.04, 4.09, 5.04, 6.09
- Pick 1.05: 1.05, 2.08, 3.05, 4.08, 5.05, 6.08
- Pick 1.06: 1.06, 2.07, 3.06, 4.07, 5.06, 6.07
- Pick 1.07: 1.07, 2.06, 3.07, 4.06, 5.07, 6.06
- Pick 1.08: 1.08, 2.05, 3.08, 4.05, 5.08, 6.05
- Pick 1.09: 1.09, 2.04, 3.09, 4.04, 5.09, 6.04
- Pick 1.10: 1.10, 2.03, 3.10, 4.03, 5.10, 6.03
- Pick 1.11: 1.11, 2.02, 3.11, 4.02, 5.11, 6.02
- Pick 1.12: 1.12, 2.01, 3.12, 4.01, 5.12, 6.01
The 1.12 slot is the turn slot. You pick at 1.12, then wait while 11 other managers pick, then pick again at 2.01 back-to-back. That back-to-back is the structural advantage of the slot. The 1.01 slot, by contrast, picks at the top of round 1, then waits 22 picks until the bottom of round 2, then 22 more picks until the top of round 3. Pick 1.01 is the consensus "best player in the draft" slot. Pick 1.12 is the "two top-15 players back to back" slot. They grade out within 8 to 12 percent of each other in long-run value over replacement across the first six rounds.
2. 10-Team Snake Draft Order
10-team is the standard home-league size. The snake compresses compared to 12-team, with shorter gaps between your round 2 and round 3 picks, which means tier bleed is more aggressive. Elite players at deep positions like tight end and quarterback fall further than they should, because every manager is drafting against a thinner baseline of league-mate rosters.
- Pick 1.01: 1.01, 2.10, 3.01, 4.10, 5.01, 6.10
- Pick 1.02: 1.02, 2.09, 3.02, 4.09, 5.02, 6.09
- Pick 1.03: 1.03, 2.08, 3.03, 4.08, 5.03, 6.08
- Pick 1.04: 1.04, 2.07, 3.04, 4.07, 5.04, 6.07
- Pick 1.05: 1.05, 2.06, 3.05, 4.06, 5.05, 6.06
- Pick 1.06: 1.06, 2.05, 3.06, 4.05, 5.06, 6.05
- Pick 1.07: 1.07, 2.04, 3.07, 4.04, 5.07, 6.04
- Pick 1.08: 1.08, 2.03, 3.08, 4.03, 5.08, 6.03
- Pick 1.09: 1.09, 2.02, 3.09, 4.02, 5.09, 6.02
- Pick 1.10: 1.10, 2.01, 3.10, 4.01, 5.10, 6.01
The 1.10 slot in a 10-team league is the most-valuable late slot across all league sizes. You get two top-12 players in the round 2-3 turn and the league is small enough that the elite-tier drop-off after pick 12 is gentler than in 12-team. If your home league gives you a choice of draft slot and you draw 1.10, treat it as a top-three slot in expected value, not a punishment.
3. 14-Team Snake Draft Order
14-team is where fantasy starts to feel like actual roster scarcity. The waiver wire is thin by week 4. Injuries compound faster because every bench is shorter relative to the league's startable player pool. The snake order below is what the "snake draft order 14 team" query is asking for directly.
- Pick 1.01: 1.01, 2.14, 3.01, 4.14, 5.01, 6.14
- Pick 1.02: 1.02, 2.13, 3.02, 4.13, 5.02, 6.13
- Pick 1.03: 1.03, 2.12, 3.03, 4.12, 5.03, 6.12
- Pick 1.04: 1.04, 2.11, 3.04, 4.11, 5.04, 6.11
- Pick 1.05: 1.05, 2.10, 3.05, 4.10, 5.05, 6.10
- Pick 1.06: 1.06, 2.09, 3.06, 4.09, 5.06, 6.09
- Pick 1.07: 1.07, 2.08, 3.07, 4.08, 5.07, 6.08
- Pick 1.08: 1.08, 2.07, 3.08, 4.07, 5.08, 6.07
- Pick 1.09: 1.09, 2.06, 3.09, 4.06, 5.09, 6.06
- Pick 1.10: 1.10, 2.05, 3.10, 4.05, 5.10, 6.05
- Pick 1.11: 1.11, 2.04, 3.11, 4.04, 5.11, 6.04
- Pick 1.12: 1.12, 2.03, 3.12, 4.03, 5.12, 6.03
- Pick 1.13: 1.13, 2.02, 3.13, 4.02, 5.13, 6.02
- Pick 1.14: 1.14, 2.01, 3.14, 4.01, 5.14, 6.01
The 1.14 slot in a 14-team snake is the deepest turn-slot value across the standard sizes. You wait 26 picks between your round 2 and round 3 selections, but you also get picks 1.14 and 2.01 back-to-back. That means you walk out of the turn with two players graded in the consensus top 18 to 22 while the rest of the league fills out its round 2 picks. In a 14-team league, where the drop from starter to replacement is steeper at every position, locking in two tier-B starters at the turn is more valuable than the equivalent slot in a 10-team league.
The 1.07 slot is the geometric mean pick in a 14-team snake. It is also the hardest slot to draft from a strategic standpoint. The consensus elite tier is gone by 1.06 in most 2026 ADP formats, and the second-tier depth doesn't open up until 1.09 or 1.10. You are drafting into a tier gap, which means reaching for need or reaching for tier. Neither is comfortable. The 14-team-specific pick pages on this site have a deeper breakdown of how to handle that gap.
4. 8-Team and 16-Team Snake Draft Orders
8-team snake: Rare in home leagues, common in expert leagues and high-stakes contests. The order is short and the snake compresses hardest at this size. Every starter is a top-40 player at their position. The round 2-3 turn at pick 1.08 gets picks 1.08 and 2.01 back-to-back, which is the smallest gap in any snake format.
- Pick 1.01 through 1.08 round 1: 1.01, 1.02, 1.03, 1.04, 1.05, 1.06, 1.07, 1.08
- Pick 1.01 through 1.08 round 2: 2.08, 2.07, 2.06, 2.05, 2.04, 2.03, 2.02, 2.01
- Pick 1.01 through 1.08 round 3: 3.01, 3.02, 3.03, 3.04, 3.05, 3.06, 3.07, 3.08
16-team snake: The format that punishes lazy drafters hardest. Quarterback and tight end get pushed up the board because the position gets scarce by round 4. The round 2-3 turn at pick 1.16 gets picks 1.16 and 2.01, which grades out as top-18-and-top-19 in 2026 ADP. Two top-20 players in a 16-team format is genuine draft capital.
- Pick 1.16 round 2-3 sequence: 1.16, 2.01, 3.16, 4.01, 5.16, 6.01
- Pick 1.01 round 2-3 sequence: 1.01, 2.16, 3.01, 4.16, 5.01, 6.16
- Pick 1.08 round 2-3 sequence (geometric mean): 1.08, 2.09, 3.08, 4.09, 5.08, 6.09
5. Which Pick Slot Should I Want in 2026?
The honest answer depends on your league's format settings, but the 2026 ADP data across Underdog, Sleeper, and PrizePicks gives a clear hierarchy by slot value.
Standard snake (ESPN, Yahoo default): The 1.01 slot has the highest expected value in standard snake because the snake only corrects round 2. Pick 1.01 still picks first in rounds 3, 5, and 7. If your league uses standard snake and you have draft-position choice, take 1.01 through 1.04 and avoid the back half of round 1.
3rd-round reversal (3RR, Underdog, FanDuel, PrizePicks): The 1.11 and 1.12 slots have the highest expected value because you get the round 2-3 turn AND the round 3-4 turn. Pick 1.12 in 3RR formats grades out as a top-three slot. The serpentine-draft-explained page on this site goes deeper on the 3RR math.
Best-ball (any platform): Same 3RR math applies, plus a ceiling premium for late slots because best-ball scoring rewards spike weeks. The best-ball strategy guide covers the archetype-specific build for each slot.
The practical rule that survives every format change: pick 1.01 is never a bad slot. Pick 1.12 is never a bad slot. The slots in the middle of round 1 (1.05 through 1.08) are the hardest to draft from because you pick after the elite tier is gone and before the round 2-3 turn value opens up.
