You commit to best-player-available for your first two picks, then you watch for the specific breakpoints where this year's board actually bends, and you pivot hard when you hit one instead of forcing a build you decided on in the offseason.
The first pivot point shows up inside the first nine picks, when four running backs, Robinson, Gibbs, Taylor, Achane, and five receivers, Chase, Lamb, Jefferson, St. Brown, Nacua, go in a jumbled run together. If you're picking in the back half of round one and all four of those running backs are gone by the time your pick comes back around, don't reach for Barkley or Henry out of scarcity. Pivot straight into the receiver run, because St. Brown or Nacua at that point on the board carries a better value score than either remaining back.
The second pivot point is the quarterback gap in rounds four through six.
